This Black Girl Rocks - Our Life in Costa Rica Yr #2

One of the Aspiring Expats is visiting us from Jaco and sleeping in our spare bedroom/my office -- so I have not been able to compile the photos from our trip to Houston, the Blues Festival or our stay in Guanacaste. I also have an update on the new photography lights I received just prior to our trip to Houston.
So later this week things should be back to normal and I will post another update.

In the meantime I thought I would share my 2nd "resolution"/goal for 2018

Stone Painting

People are forever asking me "what do you do all day?" It's sort of hard to explain because my life is so different now that I am retired and living in Costa Rica, but honestly, I stay pretty busy! However, I decided to devote a little more time to expressing my creative side.

Some of you might know that I am a glass artist and while I was in California I created/designed fused glass jewelry, drawer pulls and architectural back splashes. Since those are all done in a kiln (which I no longer have) I was feeling a teeny bit empty. I decided to take up stone painting for several reasons (1) - it's creative as well as meditative (2) - I don't need a lot of space to do it and lastly -- hopefully it's NOT a requirement that you be an artist, because clearly I Am Not!

I am going to attempt to create "mandalas" on stone (like the one in my logo above). The other subject I am thinking of painting on stone are Adinkra symbols of West Africa (Adinkra are visual symbols that represent concepts or aphorisms. Adinkra are used extensively in fabrics and pottery among the Ashantis of Ashanti Kingdom and Baoulés of Cote d'Ivoire and in Ghana) I have had an interest in these symbols for a long time.

So wish me luck!!!
