I have been thinking, thinking, THINKING about the best way to relocate to Costa Rica.
I've been reading lots of information about other expats who have made the move but after reading their accounts, I know how many suitcases they packed and what they brought with them, but I still don't know the back story about "how" they got to that point. I know that no 2 situations are exactly alike and so I still have to make this journey my own.
If you think about it, leaving the country of your birth and moving to a new country is sort of like breaking up with an old lover with whom you have become quite comfortable.

And the words of an old Paul Simon tune kept running through my head....
"Problem is all inside your head", she said to me
"The answer is easy if you take it logically
I'd like to help you in your struggle to be free
There must be fifty ways to leave your lover"
Slip out the back, Jack,
make a new plan,

And so it is. I need a new plan!
And that is exactly what I will be working on in the coming months.
The 1st major decision was when to retire and when to make the move. I decided to retire one year from yesterday (May 8th) on my 66th birthday (mostly because that's when I reach full-retirement age and will be eligible for full social security).
Could I retire earlier? Probably, but after thinking about it long and hard, I came to the conclusion that if you are a poor working girl in America, no time is a good time. Just pick a date and go with it. After I retire, I figure I can probably hold out about 60 days here (that's 2 months of paying that high-ass Bay Area rent!) and then I need to make that move or get myself a cardboard box to sleep on! Just sayin!
So looks like our target is July 2016
and.....words from the cards
Taurus
This is a month to balance your giving and receiving ratio. You may be giving too much of yourself to others or vice versa. Give something each day without expecting anything in return; this may include your time, a donation of any kind, or simply appreciating the people in your life. Similarly, ensure you are receptive to receiving help. Your message is to stop worrying too much about a particular situation in your life, as everything is working out in your favor. Be patient at this time, as your dreams and goals are about to manifest. This is also an excellent month to take up learning, continue further studies, resume school, or research on a topic. If your desired outcome is delayed, then take heart in the knowledge that everything will fall into place at the right time. This period of waiting is a great opportunity for you to absorb more information and fine-tune your skills.
